Terms used in this manual
Use these definitions when setting up a restaurant or following a procedure. The same terms appear throughout the manual.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| License | The account boundary that groups a restaurant's locations, users, and configurations. |
| Location | A restaurant venue. Each location selects a configuration and has its own tables and integration settings. |
| Configuration | The saved collection of menu items, menu pages, customer types, guest languages, and session settings. |
| Item | An entry in the master item list, identified by its item number. A menu page can display that item. |
| Menu page | A group of items presented to guests, such as Starters or Drinks. Removing an item from a page and deleting its master entry are different actions. |
| Customer type | A restaurant-defined guest category used for menu assignment and ordering rules. Names such as Adult and Child are examples, not required categories. |
| Session | One table visit: its guests, menu assignment, orders, and requests. It is separate from a staff member's signed-in account session. |
| Guest device | A phone or other browser connected to a table session. Several devices can join the same session. |
| Sub-item | An item offered as a choice within another item, such as a sauce or side dish. |
| Printer group | A logical print destination, such as Kitchen, to which a discovered printer can be assigned. |
| Passkey | A sign-in credential used through your browser or device to access your personal account. |
| API key | A credential used by an integration, such as the cash-register client. It is separate from a personal passkey. |
Who performs each task?
- Restaurant staff: seat guests, assign menus, respond to requests, and check table orders. Some seating actions require a non-administrator staff account assigned to the location.
- Restaurant administrator: maintains users, locations, configurations, resources, and integration settings within the restaurant license.
- System account: administers licenses and installation-wide accounts. Its menu differs from the restaurant menu.
- Installation operator: the person responsible for running and configuring the backend and integration services. Contact your restaurant administrator if you do not know who this is.
