Banners & Promotions

Banners allow you to display promotional content, special offers, and announcements between menu categories. Use them to highlight deals, new items, or important information for your customers.

1. Understanding Banners

Banners are images that appear between menu pages/categories on the customer ordering interface:

  • Visual impact: Catch customer attention with graphics
  • Promotional: Highlight specials, discounts, new items
  • Informative: Display hours, allergen info, or policies
  • Flexible: Schedule and reorder as needed

2. Banner Types & Sizes

Single Banner (BANNER_SINGLE)

  • Dimensions: Full width, single height
  • Best for: General promotions, announcements
  • Aspect ratio: Approximately 16:5

Double Banner (BANNER_DOUBLE)

  • Dimensions: Full width, double height
  • Best for: Detailed promotions, menu highlights
  • Aspect ratio: Approximately 16:10

Half-Screen Banner (BANNER_HALF_SCREEN)

  • Dimensions: Large, impactful size
  • Best for: Major promotions, featured items
  • Aspect ratio: Approximately 4:3

3. Creating a Banner

Step-by-Step

  1. Click "Create Banner" button
  2. Select banner type from the dropdown
  3. Choose an image (see Upload section below)
  4. Set display options:

  1. Click Save

Uploading Images

  1. Click "Select Image" or drag & drop
  2. Supported formats: JPG, PNG, WebP
  3. Recommended: High resolution (at least 1200px width)
  4. Files are automatically optimized

TIP

Design Tip: Use bold, readable text and high-contrast colors. Banners display on mobile devices - test readability at small sizes.

4. Using the Banner Editor

Cropping & Positioning

The built-in editor allows basic image adjustments:

  • Crop: Select the portion of image to display
  • Zoom: Enlarge image within the frame
  • Pan: Move image to center the focus area
  • Preview: See how it will appear to customers

Preview Mode

  1. Click the Eye icon on a banner
  2. See how it displays in the customer interface
  3. Check on different device sizes if possible
  4. Click Close to exit preview

5. Managing Banner Order

Reordering Banners

Banners appear in the menu in the order you specify:

  1. Find the banner in the list
  2. Click the Up Arrow (↑) to move earlier
  3. Click the Down Arrow (↓) to move later
  4. Changes apply immediately

::: note Pro Tip: Place your most important promotion first. Banners rotate through in the order specified. :::

Assigning to Menu Positions

Control where banners appear in the menu flow:

  1. Edit the banner
  2. Find Menu Position setting
  3. Select when banner should appear:
    • After specific categories
    • Before desserts
    • Between drinks and mains

6. Scheduling Banners

Time-Based Display

Set banners to appear only during specific periods:

  • Start Date: When banner becomes active
  • End Date: When banner automatically deactivates
  • Time of Day: Show only during certain hours (e.g., lunch specials 11am-2pm)

Day-Specific Banners

Create day-specific promotions:

  • Monday: "Meatless Monday Special"
  • Wednesday: "Wine Wednesday"
  • Friday: "Weekend Kickoff Deals"

7. Editing & Deleting

Editing a Banner

  1. Find the banner in the list
  2. Click the Pencil (✏️) icon
  3. Make desired changes
  4. Click Save

Deleting a Banner

  1. Click the Trash (🗑️) icon
  2. Confirm deletion
  3. Banner removed immediately from customer view

WARNING

Note: Deleted banners cannot be recovered. Consider deactivating instead if you might reuse it.

Deactivating (Temporary)

To hide a banner without deleting:

  1. Edit the banner
  2. Toggle Active to OFF
  3. Banner hidden but preserved for future use

8. Design Best Practices

Do's

  • Use high-quality images (not blurry or pixelated)
  • Keep text large and readable
  • Use brand-consistent colors
  • Include clear calls-to-action ("Try it today!" "Limited time!")
  • Test on actual mobile devices
  • Update regularly to keep content fresh

Don'ts

  • Too much text - keep it brief
  • Cluttered designs with multiple focal points
  • Low contrast text that's hard to read
  • Outdated promotions (expired dates)
  • Very large file sizes (slow loading)

Troubleshooting

Banner order wrongUse arrow buttons to reorder, check Menu Position settings
Upload failsCheck file size (max 5MB), verify format (JPG/PNG/WebP), try compressing image

Measuring Success

Track the effectiveness of your banners:

  • Monitor sales of promoted items
  • Compare order values with and without promotions
  • Ask customers if they saw the promotion
  • A/B test different banner designs
  • Track redemption of banner-specific offers
